I can’t stop knitting dishcloths lately. I’ve had dishcloth cotton marinating in my stash for years, but suddenly, I MUST.KNIT.A.DISHCLOTH.RIGHT.NOW! My mom has been a recipient of several of my creations, so she brought me a ball of red Sugar ‘n Cream the other day as a thank you for her newly acquired collection of kitchen handknits.
Red is my favorite color, Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays, and my kitchen sink could use a little holiday festooning. What was I to do but write my first pattern and knit it? And now I’ve written it down to share with you!
Big Heart Dishcloth is a reversible dishcloth that features a big heart in the middle and a garter stitch border. It’s easy for beginners and can be completed in just a few hours using inexpensive dishcloth cotton.
I hope you enjoy it! Happy Valentine’s Day!
The pattern is after the jump…

what a cutie-pie pattern!! i love this!
Very nice, Jill! I might actually try it as my second knitting project! So far no messups (today, anyway) on the scarf that is my first project! Will be nice to know how to do a heart!
So happy to find a tutorial for a small dishcloth. I actually want to make it for a washcloth for my granddaughter in pink! Thanks so much for sharing!!
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, I just saw this featured on One Pretty Thing! Congratulations and great work!!
Thanks! Looks easy enough but I’ll have to try it first!
This is so cute! I’m going to make one today.
Not having any Cotton yarn did not stop me from making this dishcloth. Your directions were spot on.
I made this with Red Heart acrylic in Red.
The directions seem simple enough for a friend’s 4-H group that is learning to knit and I plan on sending them some cotton skeins plus the directions for their Thursday meeting.
Thank you.

That is a lovely pattern. I’ve used your instructions and made one in blue cotton as a washcloth. I added a loop. I’ve posted a photo of it on my blog. http://www.timetocraft.co.uk/?p=300

I finally made this. I did it in a nice cream colored cotton. So much fun and easy enough for me (and my limited knitting skils). Pictures on my blog. http://newhomemade.wordpress.com/2010/04/08/a-big-change-a-little-bunny-nugget/
